Israel uses phosphorous munitions in southern Lebanon — agency

Casualties were reported among civilians

BEIRUT, March 3. /TASS/. Israel has used phosphorous munitions to shell Lebanese settlements in the Wazzani River valley in Lebanon after a Hezbollah attack on Israeli settlements in Western Galilee, the Al Wataniya news agency reported.

According to the news agency, Israel’s strikes were followed by fires in olive gardens and forests. Casualties were reported among civilians.

According to the Lebanese interior ministry, more than 60 civilians have been killed in southern Lebanon as a result of Israeli airstrikes since the outbreak of the current escalation in October 2023. Hezbollah has lost 226 fighters. More than 1,000 houses have been destroyed and 8,000 more have been damaged. The number of displaced persons has reached some 80,000. Lebanon’s economic losses are estimated at $1.5 billion.
